Remote's are great. I use nicks just like a pop on the leash -- there's no difference except the dog can be a lot farther away and I don't have to run over there. I don't use the method of "escape" where you hold the continous button until the dog obeys. I use it just like a leash correction. I know it would work better than citronella and the "torture" (as if it's really that bad) doesn't last as long. It's over in a microsecond. I don't feel comfortable using shock collars. I don't have much experience training dogs, and I certainly don't want to ruin my dog's temperament by using a shock collar wrongly.
Citronella collar? - Puppy & Dog Forums
is a collar that delivers a harmless burst of citronella spray to interrupt the dog's behavior. The spray has a unique scent that most dogs don’t normally encounter. It is harmless to humans while using it to interrupt unwanted behavior by the dog. The Citronella spray bark collars come in two forms. The first one is the anti-bark form which automatically delivers a burst of spray in response to barking and other sounds from the dog. The other one is of a remote form which differs in timing and delivery since it is not automatic. It is usually controlled by a human operator.
I've watched a couple of videos on how to use it, but..
The other type of Citronella dog collar works by detecting vibrations in your dog’s throat and then automatically releasing the spray of Citronella. The advantages here are obviously that you do not need to be constantly watching the dog with a remote control in your hand, but on the other hand it means the collar only works to stop barking and no other bad behaviour.
